LLM chatbot as a tool to simplify foreign language texts
I believe one of the best ways to learn a language is to use it every day. However, it can be hard to incorporate a new language into your life at the beginning. You simply don't know it well enough to chat online and read news. This leaves you with rather boring learning materials. I've tried to solve this problem with LLM chatbots, and so far, the results are rather encouraging!
For instance, let's consider this article: Nürburgring viertbeliebteste Sehenswürdigkeit Deutschlands. I can translate it with the help of a dictionary, but that would take a lot of time, and I don't believe it's possible to learn this way. Each article can easily contain 10, 20, 30, or even more words I've never heard of. It's unrealistic to expect my brain to remember them all, the learning curve is simply too steep.
An LLM can shorten and simplify the text, making it easier to read. For example, it can transform this:

I still need to memorize new words, but the volume is much smaller, making it doable. Additionally, I can read more texts on topics that interest me in a language I'm trying to learn. That sounds like a win-win to me!
